- How to treat Asthma/COPD conditions correctly at the right time to avoid crisis
- How to prevent problems to save you resources and keeps clients and families happier
- How to help a person with breathing problems related to Asthma and COPD
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - pathophysiology, what it is, early warning signs, symptoms, treatment and management (including inhalers and inhaler technique)
- Asthma - pathophysiology, what it is, symptoms and worsening symptoms, treatment and management (including the inhalers)
- How to assess a person’s breathing to understand what is normal so you can recognise what is abnormal so you know what you are looking for - practical session.
You will leave this session with a placebo kit to help train caregivers and clients on how to correctly administer inhalers plus be able to understand the difference between normal and abnormal breath sounds.
About the presenter: Gwendolyn Graty is a CNE
/ Respiratory Nurse Specialist who specialises in Asthma and COPD.
Although Gwendolyn trained in New Zealand, the bulk of her education
and experience was in London, UK. Gwendolyn works for a Maori PHO in
South Auckland, her role includes training health professionals in
Asthma, COPD and Spirometry and runs nurse led clinics in the providers.
Gwendolyn believes that educating her patients is paramount in her patient care
and will have a massive impact not only on the patient and their whanau but also
the health system as a whole.
