How to live in a Bi-Cultural Society
Presenter: Leigh Kelly NZRN, ADN & Faenza Niha Dip.Counselling & Social Practitioner Unitec, Sports Therapist NZ School of Medicine
Living in New Zealand is a unique experience. We recognise two cultures yet we live in a very multicultural society. This workshop will help you understand what bi-culturism is, how it came about and how to be culturally safe. It recognises the treaty in both forms - the Maori and the European version. As a country we are proving that two cultures can live together in harmony respecting each others point of view but it has been a rocky road. Much of this anger has dissipated with a society that on the whole is respectful of each others view BUT we can do better. Understanding bi-culturalism will ultimate help you to work in a multi-cultural society. It is all about understanding and asking the person how they want to be cared for. Come along to this stimulating workshop where you will learn
